Hljómur making history for breeding farm Auðsholtshjáleiga

The stallion Hljómur frá Auðsholtshjáleiga was shown at the breeding show in Rangárbökkum last week receiving an amazing assessment total of 8.77 and thereby becoming the highest judged stallion from Auðsholtshjáleiga yet!

Hljómur was shown by Árni Björn Pálsson and got 8.76 for confirmation with 9.5’s for back and croup and hooves and 8.78 for ridden abilities with 9’s for tölt, trot, rideability, general impression and slow tölt. With comments like “high movements” and “light frontpart”.

He’s after their honorary price mare Tíbrá frá Auðsholtshjáleiga (tot. 8.34) and the stallion Organisti frá Horni I (tot. 8.72). Hljómur is breed by Gunnar Arnarson and Kristbjörg Eyvindsdóttir, and owned by Gunnar Arnarson ehf.

The Auðsholtshjáleiga farm is located in Ölfus southwest of Iceland and is run by Gunnar Arnarson, Kristbjörg Eyvindsdóttir and Þórdís Erla Gunnarsdóttir. The farm started in 1980 with mostly training, teaching and selling horses, but later on began focusing more on breeding. And has until now won “The best breeding farm of the Icelandic horse of the year” six times, nominated again just last year 2024. Auðsholtshjáleiga is also offering horse export, with their biggest market in Europe, but has exported all over the world since 1986.

Quoting from their website, horseexport.is, their goal is ”to breed excellent horses; for Pleasure Riding, Competition Horses and for Horse Breeding”. Horses with good temperament, gaits and physics. The pedigree of most Auðsholtshjáleiga horses is linked to Hrafn frá Holtsmúla, Orri frá Þúfu and Ófeigur frá Flugumýri.

Now Hljómur makes history for the farm by becoming their highest judged bred stallion so far. The trainer of the horse, þórdís Erla Gunnarsdóttir, describes him as a very unique individual. A well built good-looking horse while also being of a strong and athletic type. She continues by saying that all his gaits are very even and with both great movements and quality. Ending with that the best thing about him is his temperament, being extremely clever, sweet and brave, when asked about him.

For the summer Hljómur will cover by hand at their farm and already has offsprings born 2024/2025 that seems to inherit his charisma and big movements, þórdís says.
